Last month we purchased a 1940 Norton 16H at the British motorcycle swap meet in San Jose. We have been looking for this particular model for several years to add to our BSA WM20 and Triumph 3HW war bikes already in the collection.
May 11, 2007 …. This week I had the pleasure of visiting Garry Chitwood in Bessemer Alabama. Garry is one of the most widely acclaimed motorcycle restorers in America. His beautiful and meticulous Triumph restorations are world famous, appearing as the stars in the annual Sullivan’s calendars and in Tim Remus’ many books on Triumph motorcycles.
Last week, we traveled from Phoenix to Seattle for a few days to take delivery of our 1966 T120R Bonneville that Dave Wedlake has been restoring for the past year. Dave Wedlake drove up from Portland and delivered it to our shop in Redmond.
For those who don't regularly follow this blog or aren’t familiar with this particular machine … it was purchased on the internet in July 2005 as a reasonably priced partially restored machine. When we took delivery, however, we discovered the bike was in pretty rough condition with many incorrect parts. We suspected we would probably need to invest more money than a restored '66 T120R would be worth, but we decided to move ahead anyway since we love this model so much. Unfortunately, our suspicions proved to be true once we got into the restoration.
Although it took a while to complete, the T120R is beautiful and a welcome addition to our collection.
